The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned forward Brock McGinn and defenseman Mark Friedman to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by general manager Ron Hextall.
McGinn, 29, is in his second season with the Penguins and has tallied 10 goals, six assists and 16 points in 60 games. His 10 goals on the season are the sixth most on the Penguins, while his three game-winning goals are tied for third on the team.
The 6-foot, 187-pound forward has played in eight NHL seasons, split between Pittsburgh and the Carolina Hurricanes, and has recorded 73 goals, 71 assists and 144 points in 469 career games. McGinn has also played in 41 career playoff games, tallying seven goals, seven assists and 14 points with the Hurricanes and Penguins.
McGinn played parts of four seasons in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers to begin his career (2013; 2014-17). In 134 career AHL games, McGinn has recorded 39 goals, 31 assists and 70 points.
Friedman, 27, has played in 12 games with Pittsburgh this season, recording one goal and 11 penalty minutes. This season with WBS, Friedman has registered one goal, four assists and is plus-5 in 19 AHL games. He has been plus or even in 16 of his 19 AHL games this year.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound defenseman has played in 53 career NHL games, split between the Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers, recording four goals, six assists and 10 points. He has also skated in 207 career AHL games with the WBS Penguins and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, registering 11 goals, 55 assists and 66 points, and scored two goals in 12 AHL playoff games with Lehigh Valley.
The Penguins’ next home game is Wednesday, Mar. 8, when the Toronto Marlies come to town for the first and only time this season. Puck drop for the Penguins and Marlies is 7:05 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
