BOXSCORE

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins extended their current win-streak to six games by beating the Rochester Americans, 3-2, at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester on Friday night.

Two power play goals paced the Penguins (28-7-3-0) to victory, including a tally from Carter Rowney in his first game back from injury that kept him out 18 games.

Rochester got an early jump in the game, as Daniel Muzito-Bagenda nabbed a rebound goal for the Americans 4:37 into the first.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton responded minutes later with its first man advantage marker. Carter Rowney nabbed his seventh goal of the season on a pass from Tom Kostopoulos at 9:44 of the first. Kostopoulos then got a power play goal of his own 3:50 later as the result of tipping in a slap shot from Tim Erixon.

Rowney and Kostopoulos’ power play goals turned the tables on the home team, and quickly put the Penguins into a 2-1 lead.

While the second period yielded no additional score for either team, the Penguins penalty kill put in a stingy performance, killing off their third, fourth, and fifth penalties of the game.

The Americans evened the score at 5:38 of the third, as former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton forward Cal O’Reilly broke the Penguins’ penalty kill streak and potted a power play goal for Rochester.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton sealed their eventual win when Stuart Percy grabbed the go-ahead goal at 13:16 in the third. The Penguins killed six of seven Rochester power plays for the win, and cashed in on two of their own four man-advantages.

Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry turned aside 27 shots in his 16th win of the season, tying him for the league lead. Amerks netminder John Muse stopped 21 of 24 shots.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s next game is tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 14, when they face off with the Syracuse Crunch at 7:00 p.m. at Onondaga County Oncenter War Memorial Arena. The Penguins’ next home showing is Saturday, Jan. 21, and their opponent will be the Hershey Bears.
