The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have reassigned defenseman Lane Caffaro and goaltender Adam Berkhoel to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), it was announced today.
Caffaro, 25, was signed by the Penguins as a free agent on June 16th. He appeared in four games last season on a tryout, and posted one assist.
Prior to his joining the Penguins, the Slave Lake, Alberta native appeared in 135 career games for Union College (ECAC), where he totaled 79 points (23+56). He led all Union defensemen with 22 points last season, and earned All-ECAC First Team honors.
Berkhoel, 28, was signed by the Penguins as a free agent on July 28. He finished last season with a record of 15-11-2 in 28 games, a goals-against average of 2.53 and a save percentage of .910. He also finished tied with John Curry with four shutouts, which included the posting of a new team-record shutout streak of 202:44.
Neither player has appeared in a game this season.
